Inspection and Show Results

At the LVDA recognized dressage Show on August 20, we met Carole who was riding Ghradine in some classes at training level. Although there were a few bobbles due to green horse and green amateur rider mistakes, the good parts were really beautiful to watch! I got a few photos of the two of them. Keep up the good work, Carole! At the AHS inspection held at RSF, Ghradine was presented for her mare inspection. She received an overall score of 7.05 with 8's for head, neck, frame, and typiness and femininity. In the MPT she was ridden by her amateur rider, and was a star. She lost her confidence in the free jumping chute due to greeness, and this really affected her score. In the jumping, she seceived a 5.5. Under saddle she looked lovely and very easy to ride. I thought these scores were a bit tough. Read Carole's letter below to know that a day in the life of this mare doesn't change her owner's high opinion of the rideability and gaits of this horse. She will continue to prove her worth over and over again to Carole Holiday daily and in the dressage ring.

Hi Mo, Ta Da! I just came back from N.J. Horse Park, Dheeny's first performance show and what a trooper. All three judges gave her a 7 on gaits. Our first test was Tr 1 and our score was a respectable 63.182 for 3rd place. She received 8 on working trot and 8 on medium walk. She was a little confused on the right lead canter so that lowered our score a bit but we schooled it b/4 the next test and she nailed it. Must be those new hind shoes:) Training 4 was a little bit of a stretch for her at the end of the day and it was so hot but she still scored 60% and would have been in the ribbons but Open was combined with AA. Our third test was Tr 1 again and she received 8 on her medium walk so I guess she's got it. Our score was 63.67% and our first Blue:) Judges comments were "nice horse", "lovely trot and canter","steady frame and connection". I'm so proud of her and will always be grateful to you for this wonderful little girl. Thanks again. God Bless and have a wonderful 4th. Best regards, Carole and Dheeny

Owner Comments

Hi Mo,
I'm looking froward to breeding Ghradine to Loerke. The cross of Gold Luck mares with him is a super one. Here is what she looks like all grown up!

Dear Mo,
Once again, thanks for your support! You were correct. Our scores were low but the things that were good were very good and the things that were bad were horrid:) We both need mileage
and I need to regain my tournament toughness. Imagine, after that buck we received a 7 for our stretchy circle.
"Horse willing to stretch forward and down. Balance maintained." Her new name is Edith Ann as I sometimes forget that she is only 4. I am on my way to bed b/c I am NOT 4 anymore and rising at 3:30 AM and driving nearly 5 hours total today allows my common sense to kick in along with my overwhelming fatigue.

God bless,
Carole and Edith Ann

Dear Mo and staff,
Thank you so much for your efforts. It was a very positive experience for both Ghradine and for me. Mo, our girl was a star! I could not be more pleased. She had only jumped 3 times b/4 Sunday and she went through the shoot like a pro. We got what you get when you don't get what you want, experience! Watch out next year!! She is still Elite Mare eligible and we will work over the winter on our jumping. I had a few observers compliment Dheeny on her jumping style and our under saddle work, again talking Hunter. I am proud of our girl and I am so grateful to you and to all the breeders who are diligently trying to breed the best in America. I watch the statistics and you are in there. Gold Luck is a wonderful foundation stallion and you have improved each year.
Thank you again,
Carole and Dheeny
August 2005

No need for a pony!

Hi again Mo. Once again, Ghradine has saved the day. I had to wean my foal suddenly for Mikie's sake and we drove to Serenity Equine to retrieve him. He was in great shape and seemed to adjust to leaving his mother within 4 days. He started nibbling on Mikie's feed almost from the very beginning so he was already used to food coming from the bucket. Poor Church has had 4 trailer rides in his short 2 months but he seems no worse for wear. We stalled him next to Ghradine for 2 days and then put them out with a fence between. I watched them for 2 days and thought they would be okay.

Ron checked and then I checked about 1/2 hour later and there were two horses in one field. One BIG and one little, two tails swinging calmly and two very happy critters. Apparently, removing the gate was a minor detail for Ghradine and jumping it left no one the worse for wear. Next, shoot training for this girl. Ghradine has adopted Church and he has adopted her. She reprimands him with a slight squeal but never is aggressive towards him. He should really have another colt to play with but if not, Ghradine will certainly do for now.

If possible, would you send a video of the inspection and the scores to me. I really wanted to be there but had to travel to VA to pick-up Church. I like to see the new crop and what combinations score accordingly.

Thanks again,

July 2005

Hi Mo,
As I am sure you understand, this has been a tough time for me. My 15 year old mare who I have had since she was 4, foaled on June 12th and had a beautiful Juventis colt, live and kicking. Unfortunately, she did retain the placenta and developed a severe laminitis in all four feet. I was on top of everything including the dystocia that could have lost my foal.

She suffered extreme "Sinkers Laminitis", the worst type of laminitis. NBC held out little hope for her survival and by the grace of God, my friend read about Whoopy in the Hanoverian Magazine. I asked her to fax article to me and I spoke to 3 success stories the very next day. I also spoke to Dr. Andrea Floyd as well. I drove my mare and foal to Evington, VA the next day and I was met at 10 PM by her staff. They are angels. They began work on my mare immediately and at this writing, she is progressing well and may be rideable again. I had planned to retire her any way. I am just grateful that she will survive. "Church" is doing well and will be weaned at 6 weeks. I have support on this end for my foal but would appreciate any input you could offer.

I am surprised by the number of people who do not understand laminitis and that there IS help. It does not have to be fatal. I did not until it was up close and personal. I hope to enlighten as many as I can about the wonderful work that has been done for many many years by Dr. Andrea Floyd of Serenity Equine at her clinic in Evington, VA.

The next bright spot in my life is my precious Ghradine. She went out to be broken June 1st and the reports were very negative. This was not anything like what I had expected as she had been a love ever since she picked me in the field. You remember that I was not shopping for a baby. I just came along for the ride with my friend:)

I decided to pull her from this situation and put her with Dorie Addy Crow. I have worked with Dorie for many years and know that she has started many young horses. Dorie is on her own now and is taking horses in training. Ghradine is under saddle and has been a star from day one She has been under saddle since the 8th of July and has not put one foot wrong. Dorie says that she hopes that all the young horses are as good as Ghradine! WE knew that though, didn't we? Dorie says that I will love her when I start riding her August 1st.
Anyone who questions the talent and attitude of the Gold Luck children should be assured. Not only are they beautiful but talented and have wonderful minds.

Thank you so much for this wonderful little girl. She has kept me going through these trying times.

Best regards,
Carole Holiday
