2014 foaling season is right around the corner and I need naming theme ideas! Plus best wishes to Quinnten on his new job!

We started naming foals using a theme with the first foal crop from Gold Luck.  That was in 1996.  That year, I also started the tradition of putting an "h" as the second letter of the foals' names.  The Hanoverian Society didn't allow duplicate names.  I would name my foals when they were born and then find out I didn't get my desired name when the registration papers were issued many months later.  I was sick of not getting my desired name, so I added the silent "h" to my name request.  This worked great with names beginning with G (Gold Luck), L (Loerke), W (Welcome S) and some other letters from frozen semen pregnancies.  Then Shakespeare RSF was licensed and we bought Sir James.  The "S" became "Sh" and now the names make no sense.  Now I breed German Oldenburgs.  I am known across the USA for names with the second letter h, so I have continued it.  Naming themes in the past have been:  exclamatory, cities, musical, drinks, movie stars, countries, scientific, nautical, literature, occupations, people names, foods and spices, candy and confections, wild west, movies, fashion, games and recreation, and last year's theme- bodies of water. Send me your ideas for this year.  When we choose a theme, I'll post it here and then I'll need your help in making up a list of possible names to choose from.  Quinnten is leaving RSF (boo-hoo).

Quinnten- funny face!

He has accepted a job with Hilltop Farm in MD to be involved in their raising and handling program.  We wish him all the best, and we are all so proud of him.  He is the best handler of in hand horses out there and he has been so unbelievably valuable to RSF over the last 5 years.  It will not be the same without him here.....

Other than all of his other roles at RSF, he has been my main supplier of names.  Hopefully he will have time to still contribute to our list, but I'm sure I will still need everyone's help.  Put on your thinking caps and contact me by email with your ideas- jmswanson@erols.com
Those of you who have been to my farm know that I find four leaf clovers everywhere.  Being in the horse breeding business, I am not taking any chances.  Every one I find is taped up on a cabinet door in my barn office, right next to the foal list for the year.  Or the mare breeding/pregnancy record for the year.  Or anywhere I can put them.   I have even found an 8 leaf clover and many 5 and 6 leaf clovers.  Does that mean extra good luck?  I sure hope so!
