Client Updates

We love to receive letters, pictures and emails from our clients updating us on the horses they have purchased or bred through our farm. With so many of our "children" out in the world, keeping track of them is a daunting task. It is very gratifying to see so many of them doing so well and living up to their owner's dreams. It certainly makes all the effort, planning, dreaming and occasional heartache worthwhile!

Here are some of our favorite updates...

Hello Mo and Jim, I just came across your website. My horse was a baby of yours from 01! It was really fun to see pictures and learn about both Gold Luck and Wichita! I've known Ghabe since he was a youngster. My husband is a trainer here in MN. He started him for Jennifer that purchased him from you. When Jennifer decided to sell him through my husband in the Hunter/Jumper market, he wanted to keep him around! He had one of the young girls that rode with him try him out and they purchased him as a Hunter. He was still so green when they bought him, but he ended up bringing her all the way from Long Stirrup to the Junior Hunters and 3'6 Equitation. Last Fall, they decided that they would have to sell him prior to Siara going off to College this Fall. We couldn't imagine after having him around for so long, seeing him go somewhere else! We love him so much, that we decided to buy him ourselves!!! The timing was just right that I was ready for a new horse for me. I've switched him over to the Jumper ring and he is doing great! I truly adore this horse. He is a fun and sweet guy...a complete goofball. I just wanted to give you an update on him. I think it is really neat how you keep track of them and have a great website. It was fun to look through at all of his relatives! Kind Regards, Nicole Salazar

Ghranada had a beautiful colt in 2009, allowing her to achieve her elite status. Since being weaned, she has been back in work, training with a professional (first/second level). Her first show back since "motherhood" she scored 69.6% and was high score winner of the show, view that test below as well as a clip of her free jumping just a few days later. Nada went to her first licensed dressage show on 9/11/10 and won her class with a fabulous 70.357%!! This mare is extremely athletic and talented, not one to miss! $28,500.00

Hi Mo, I wanted to forward this picture of Toni that a friend of mine took at his first show. He did better than we expected. He's not spooky but was a little bit unsure at times. In our first class he heard a noise that scared him and we didn't canter on the left even after circling twice. We did get the right. The judge was laughing at the end and said what a nice baby but don't look at the score, it was a 51%. After that he figured out what we wanted and in his second test in front of Maryal Barnet we had a 70%. He got a 8 on gaits. His third ride in front of Fran Dearing, he was a little tired and cranky and only had a 65%, again a 8 on gaits. He doesn't carry himself like a 3 year old. I've never ridden a horse so balanced before. I know I said that about Ghlen and Rhavel but he's different. The man I work with (Carel Eijkenaar), said he's the kind of horse that the Germans would not sell. He thinks we should try for the young horse championships next year. We'll see. A client of mine taped him and is going to try to get it in youtube. Here it is:

Lhindt  2008 Hanoverian Gelding
 sire  Loerke      dam  Whichita

Hi, Mo! I'm sure you get TOO many email messages, but I couldn't resist sending this one because I'm so pleased. I've started fooling around with Lhindt a bit more during the late summer months -- taking walk-abouts (near roads, flushing deer from the underbrush, past the exciting mare fields [he can passage], passing huge scary farm equipment, meeting other horses out on the trail, etc.) He's been amazingly calm. He looks, but he's not been stupid. The worst (not bad at all) was when we flushed the deer -- he ran backward about 4-5 steps but didn't pull the lead out of my hands, and second worst was passing the big scary farm equipment at 3' distance -- he took some convincing but he passed it calmly in the end -- something NEITHER of my mares would have done. We're also doing some ring work (just in the halter): jumping over cavaletti, learning to stay at my shoulder no matter what speed I go, backing up, and moving away from me when I ask by pushing on his sides. Just in the last 2 weeks, I've started to introduce Lhindt to "clothes:" the bridle (w/o reins and with the halter over top, so far; he LOVES having the bit in his mouth), sport boots (non-issue after the first few exaggerated steps), a surcingle with pad (he looked at it hoping it would go away, then ignored it when it didn't), and today the saddle (w/o stirrups, which was a total non-issue). No bucking, no rolling, no pawing -- what a good sport! So, pat yourself on the back for making a good recommendation for me (at least so far)! At nearly 2 1/2 he's still a geek, and still looks like a giraffe when he puts his head up to the full height of that long neck. I haven't measured him in the last month, but I think he's over 16.2 now; he's the tallest of the geldings in his field (and no push over any more). I'm having a blast. Looking forward to seeing you and Jim again soon. Best to John and Beth. -- Dennis

Hi Mo, I writing writing with a Matilda update. Now that the school year has come to a close, I finally had a day with my girl. She surpassed my expectations! I took her right out the field and set up a little grooming station under a nice shady tree. She stood like we did this every day. She is extremely confident, smart and personable. You definitely took all the qualities I listed in my first long email and found me a wonderful future dressage partner. I believe that you have a matchmaking gift! I also am so appreciative that you for recommended Judy Reggio to me. She takes super care of Matilda and treats us both like family. I will be in touch with future updates. Thanks again for everything. All the best! Ann

Hi Mo! Just wanted to send a quick e-mail to let you know we made it home to Michigan safe and sound....we turned in the drive way around 11:00 p.m. Larry walked right off the trailer after just a few minutes of surveillance....he walked into his stall and settled in right away. He is so sensible! My girls love him already too. I'll keep you updated on his progress! Thanks again for being such wonderful hosts.....you have no idea what a thrill it was for Kathy and I to be at your farm....it's Disneyland for Dressage riders! The long drive was absolutely worth it. Take care, and thanks again for Lharamie! _________________________ Tonya L. Kuizenga

Hi Mo, Well, I am totally enamored with Chita and Fella...she is just a doll, and Fella...well he is the cutest ever. He loves to lay his head in my lap and sleep! The hock is looking better...I am trying to get him off of antibiotics but it keeps swelling and oozing a bit, so put him back on. I'm sure it will be fine in a few weeks. I've attached two pics...their socks are dirty, but kind of cute pic :) So sorry about Regalia's foal...that is heartbreaking when you try so hard to save one. Take care, Jennifer

Hi Mo! I have been thinking about you and your men in OK (all three of them!). My fingers have been crossed for health, soundness and success. Thanks for the pix of Lance--I'll check again, but the foal pic from Germany didn't make it. Lance has been GREAT! He and Lava (Lance probably wonders how Hhamilton got so small) have been turnout buddies since Tuesday (2 to 6 hours a day). They are so good together! Lance is probably the sweetest horse I have ever known. He was lunged on Tues then lunged and ridden Wed, Thurs and Sat. He has been a gem; level-headed and so willing. He's amazing--the arena which is non-fenced sits in the middle of the macadam driveway, the gravel drive, the woods, and cornfield (yes, the corn is still standing and it makes scary sounds in the wind). Lance seems so aware of his surroundings so it is wonderful that he can hold it together especially with the weather being less than stellar, ok, let's be more accurate: 30mph winds pretty much suck when the mercury is hovering around 34 degrees. Thank you so much! I have attached a pic of Lance with Mini-Hhamilton (Lava). Enjoy! Jo

Hi Mo,
Sharon forwarded me some pictures of Rhavel. He is doing pretty good this year. He has qualified I-II and Grand Prix. We're finally starting to get some good scores in the ring on our piaffe. He's had a few 8s now and has been getting 7s on the passage. We even managed to get an 8 on our 1 tempi's We still have our moments when I don't want to talk to him. I wanted to do Devon this year but he still mentally isn't ready. Hopefully next year. The last show we did we finally got a 64 at the Grand Prix. We show again in a couple weeks so maybe he's getting the hang of it.
Ghlen is doing well. He got qualified early. His scores were not as high as I wanted. His just over 66%. I wanted higher. We show again in a couple weeks. I wanted to do the I-1 but the full pirouettes just were not there. He has beautiful 2 tempi's. So next year.
Toni is getting big. He still looks like such a baby that I just haven't done much with him. He lunges and has his bridle on but that has been it. He's so sweet. He would rather get petted than eat his food. Maybe this fall I'll do something we'll see.
The babies look nice. Take care. Tell Jim we say hi. Nancy

8/30/09 Hey Mo, LJ has been going to lots of over fences shows and doing very well, his lead changes are incredible when he gets them right but sometimes he likes to play too much through them and will miss. He was 3rd in one of his classes out of about 15 today! He's such a good boy! I attached some pictures of him at a hunter show and over a jump in his first jumper course EVER. He was entered in the For Sale class at Quentin but the day ran so slow that they moved it to the jumper ring and he shocked me with how relaxed he was. Gum and Scoop are getting bigger and bigger everyday it seems, I look at pictures of them when they first got here and I hardly recognize them.

Hi Mo- Hope you are well. I am sending you an update on Leo (I have been meaning to do this for awhile...) He is doing very well and I am having a good time with him. Unfortunately, I need to sell some of my horses and he is the most saleable. By the way, Woody and I are doing PSG--we have developed quite a relationship. He is 18 this year and still has his BMOC attitude toward the world. Hopefully, it will keep him going for years to come. I did a clinic recently with Jeanne McDonald and she LOVED Leo. She said she knew you. You are probably in the middle of foaling. Good luck. I also wish you some good uninterrupted hours of sleep. Thanks, Jan Templeton

Mo, We just picked up Whitman this evening. He is now gelded, since he was going to be out anyway. All of the people at the clinic remarked on how well mannered he was and easy going. The damage to his nose should just be a small scar and bump. He will be on stall rest for two weeks, but otherwise will be fine and back to normal. He looks very pathetic with his face covered in a bandage. Carrie

Hi Mo, By now I am sure that you have been told that amid many tears and much sadness Rocky was euthanized at Mid Atlantic last Friday. It has been a devastating time though I know that I did everything for Rocky that could be done and sharing it with others and hearing their stories is making it all a little more bearable. It all started when Rocky fell in a muddy, flat, dry lot at my trainers on Friday Feb 27th but he was still able to walk and trot though he was lame on his left hind. I bought him home on Tuesday since any training was unlikely to happen and we promptly left to go on a family vacation skiing in Breckenridge. Sue thinks that he had a problem getting up during the night on Saturday and by Sunday morning he was unable to bear weight on his left hind and once again Quakertown were called. He then spent time at Quakertown Vet Hospital where they were unable to help him so on Wednesday I then took him to Mid Atlantic Vet Clinic in New Jersey as they could do bone scans. It was found that he had a complete fracture of the pelvic floor near the hip joint, probable multiple fractures elsewhere in the pelvis, a damaged hip joint and probable damage to the main ligament that could have helped hold everything together. In the end the decision to release him from his pain was an easy one but he was such an integral part of my daily life that it will take some time to come to terms with everything. However life will go on, the barn still needs doing and my little thoroughbred Mac is providing and great mane to cry on. Wayne, is being a superb support, my trainer called last night and we had an encouraging talk and, as Joanna my daughter says, every cloud has a silver lining, one just has to find it. Rocky was a wonderful horse with a perfect temperament and he taught me a great deal. At our last show together, the Garden State Classic, we pinned in virtually every class and even won one of the Training Four classes with a 71.2% and he qualified to compete in the 09 championships. In 09 my plan had been to also qualify him at First Level and move on to Second Level by the end of the year as he already had canter/walk/canter transitions nailed, all his canter work was unbelievably balanced and finally we had just started to get that long awaited spectacular shoulder in. I am so sad that my ride is over but he will always be a part of my life and my dressage learning process. Thank you for breeding such a great friend, partner and superstar. Jocelyn

Hi Mo, Looking at your website, it looks like you have been busy. I love to see all your babies. I thought you might like to know the latest on Lass. We worked on our dressage, but as I moved up the levels, she seemed less interested. We got through third level, but never had her heart in it. I had the jumper trainer at the barn, where I ride, start to jump her. Well she was a natural and a star. Her very first jumper show she was reserve champion! I realized that it was her first love. She was so much happier jumping than any time she was in the dressage ring. I am too old to jump anymore! I sold her last month to a young girl who is eventing her. She took her to work with Dennie Emerson and he loved Lass. It makes me so happy to find her the right job. I miss her and all her big personality, but she is loved and happy. She is living in Winston Salem NC and I do get to see when she comes to Georgia for dressage lessons. I have purchased a wonderful Wurttemberger school master, who has no interest in even going over a ground pole! In the past six months he has helped me get both my bronze and silver medals. I hope you and your family all are well. Since I bought Lass, we also have had 4 grandchildren, which means ponies will have to come soon! I love seeing your babies and thought you might like to know where one of them is now. Trying to stay warm, and I am sure it is the same for you. Sincerely, Christine Felker

Hi Mo and Jim, Just wanted to let you guys know that we all made it home fine. It felt like a lonnngg trip but Lhifesaver handled it great. Took him about 10 minutes to decide he wanted to come OFF the trailer when we got here, but he eventually decided to meander down the ramp and into his stall. My other horses have come into the next stall for a "meet and greet".... so far, so good. I brought him down some warmed water and he was drinking that and munching on some hay when I left him. So far he's living up to his rep for being "Mr. Cool". No theatrics or drama, just kind of looking around and taking it all in. I'll be sure to keep you posted, but wanted you to know he was safely home. Thanks for everything. Talk to you soon! Caroline

Mo, I Thought I would update you on current events with Ghamma Ray. Rachel & Pat Gregory are working very hard with Ghamma Ray ... 5 to 6 days/week. Ghamma Ray is starting to show her Jumper skills! We have never taken Ghamma Ray to a horse show off the property since we bought her in October of '07 because she was just getting back under saddle when we found out she was pregnant in April of '08, then she was doing the Mom thing till October of '08, so this was her first show 18 months later (with a 14 year old rider) off property. Yesterday Rachel & Pat took Ghamma Ray to a "B" rated Jumper show with a small class at Old Salem Farm in New York. Rachel rode (all the other riders were late teens or 20's) in 2 classes - 3 events at 2.5 feet, and 3 events at 3 feet. She & Ghamma Ray rode all 6 events clean and took 1st in all 6 events, and obviously won both championships!! They thought about riding in the 3.5 ft events but thought to quit while they were ahead on their first time out. Rachel is thrilled that her patience & hard work is paying off, and Ghamma Ray's skills as a Jumper are starting to show! Dad got 6 coffee cups for the effort ... one for each blue ribbon. Note - We occasionally get a note from the owner of the colt ... Rocky/Confidential ... they are going through the process of raising him to be a performance horse. FYI Paul

You can add that to their list of attributes. After reading about his mom, I may not want to geld him. I will send a picture of him, as he is now bay. Thanks for the info on mom. Hi Mo, I was really happy with Julia (for her first ever clinic off the farm for a clinic with Rick Klaassen) - she was a v.g. girl for the lesson. I think she's just going to need time to grow into herself and she's going to be really fun. At least she doesn't still look like a yearling like she did when she went to Kelly's (to be broke to saddle). :-)

Hello! I was researching my horse and her sire (Gold Luck) and came across a page on your website where people had written letters to keep in touch with you guys regarding their horses. I now own Gaudenzia (technically my father does, I suppose, but she is in full training with me). We've had her for about a year and after some retraining of connection problems (what a long lovely neck she has that likes to crink up like an accordian!) and an undeveloped canter, she has turned into what I consider a "horse of a life time". Tess, as we call her, has been to two shows now in the Northwest and at both shows had the highest scores of the show under four different judges. Her training level median so far is a 78% and her first level median is a 77%. My goal is to make her Horse of the Year, wish us luck! She is such a phenomenal mare. I've never ridden anything so level headed, composed, kind, clever, willing. She is entirely unflappable, loves to show off, I've never had any kind of naughty moments on her, nothing could be improved about her personality (other than her irrational fear of clippers!). To top it all off she has three strong, uphill, elastic, cadenced gaits... she's just fabulous. Just wanted to let you guys know that one of Gold Luck's babies is taking the Northwest low level show scene by storm! Thank you and wish us luck on our Horse of The Year bid! -Olivia Chapeski of Chapeski Stables, Florence, Montana

7/27/08 Just thought you'd like to see a recent photo of her. In this picture she's 2 years 6 weeks old...this was taken back on April 29. Keep in mind, I'm 5'6''. She's grown since this picture! Sincerely, Kristen 6/2008 Hey! My name is Kristen Millington, you don't know me yet but I currently own the horse you bred named Gigi! I noticed that Michelle had mentioned me on your site, so I decided to get in contact with you in case you were interested in knowing about her! She's doing great! I have started round pen work with her and she'd really catching on, she's a very smart little mare! The very first time I put a saddle on her back and girthed it up, she did not even flinch! I have started calling her a different name, but have kept her registered as Ghidgette. Her new name is Rheannin...Rhea (pronounced Ray-ah) for short. I just wanted to let you know that you definitely know how to breed them! She is the most gorgeous mover (everyone's jaws drop when they first see her trot!) and such an athletic horse! She has this bad habit that I hope she'll grow out of, but it really portrays how talented she is! She gets very jealous when I pay attention to my other horse, and to show her disapproval she puts her foot up in her feed bin! This is amazing because her feed bin is between 3 and 4 feet from the ground, and she does it like it's nothing to her! My friend told me I should teach her the Spanish walk because of it! She has talent beyond any horse I could have ever dreamed of owning! I had originally purchased her due to her jumping ability, I have always had a dream of taking a horse to the Grand Prix jumper level...and I feel she may have the talent for it! I hadn't looked at her originally because I thought she was a dressage horse, but then a friend of mine told me about the time she jumped out of her paddock. She told me how before she was even a year old yet that all of the horses were running around and headed straight toward the gate...all of them slammed to a halt except for Gigi! My friend said she went sailing on over (with a foot to spare) in absolutely perfect form with the greatest of ease! She landed on the other side, trotted back and forth a couple times trying to figure out what happened and how to get back with the other horses, then just stopped and started grazing. The jump did not even phase her, and the fact that she was loose and separate from the others was not of any concern to her!! I measured the gate afterward and it was 4'6'', so she had jumped about 5'6'' when she was still just a weanling! I just can not say enough about how wonderful of a mare she is! I am planning to take her to her 3 year old inspection at the beginning of next year. Like I said, I purchased her with intentions of turning her into a jumper...but her movement just screams dressage so I can't ignore that! I plan to teach her both jumpers as well as dressage, I'm sure she will excel in both! I'm sorry for such a long email, it's just that whenever I start talking about this mare I can't seem to stop! If you're at all interested I could get you a few pictures of her...that way you can see how lovely she's become as well as how big she's getting! I believe she's about 16.2 or 16.3 already, and only about 2 years and 4 months old! She's gonna be huge! Sincerely, Kristen
