AHS Inspection at RSF 7-20-08 and Hedgeland AHS Inspection, MPT and MAHB Mare Show 10-4&5-08
7/20/08- Our judges were Suzanne Quarles, MD, and Manfred Schafer, Germany, with hugh Bellis Jones acting as secretary. It was a big day for us because we had 3 three year old mares for inspection and MPT. Along with preparing our own mares, we were hosting a large contingent of outside horses who were there, too, and of course, the farm had to be spotless!
The day started with free jumping for the mare performance test, which went well. Top score with a 7.5 for form and an 8 for ability went to Cheerleader [Cabalito/EM Reynah (Rienzi)], owned and bred by me.
She was followed by Wiktoria HHF [Wolkentanz I/SPS Fenja (Frappant)] owned and bred by Christine Kropf with a 7 and an 8. Three non Hanoverian mares were presented with only one being accepted- an 11 year old TB mare named Miss Warbeck with a 7.33. She is proudly owned by Richard and Marianne Atkinson. She received a 9 for her head, and 8's for conformation, and typiness and femininity. The high score in the Hanoverian mare inspection went to Lhibrarian [Loerke/Rhococo (Renaissance)] with an overall 8.0. She received 8's for conformation, typiness and femininity, correctness of gaits, overall impression and development, and a 9 for the walk.
Cheerleader received a 7.66 with 8's for conformation, typiness and fem., walk and overall impression.
Two mares received a 7.16- Wiktoria HHF with an 8 for the walk and What Fun WMF [Wolkentanz I/Lilith (Lauries Crusador xx)] owned by Allison Kavey and Andrea Woodner and bred by Jim Bond and Heather Stanley with an 8 for impulsion and elasticity at the trot. Two mares received a 7.0- Savoir Faire TFH [San Brasil/ Etoscha (Escudo I)] owned and bred by Talley Ruhle and Fhashion Model [Florencio/SPS Arkadia (Akut)] owned by me and bred in Germany.
In the mare performance test, the high score ribbon went to Lhibrarian with a 7.69.

She received a 9 for the walk, 8's for trot, canter and rideability and a 7.5/6 for the jumping.
Just before the under saddle portion she received a boo-boo above her knee which required a quick skin stapling job and wrap by me, then she continued on. What a trooper!
Fhashion Model received a 7.61 with 8.5 for rideability, 6.5 for walk, 7's for trot and canter and 7.5/7.5 for the jumping.
Cheerleader received a 7.47 with 7.5 for rideability and canter, 7's for trot and walk and 7.5/8 for the jumping.
All three of three three year olds I tested here are now Elite Mare Candidates. Mucho thanks to Beth Hart, my rider and barn manager at that time who did such a super job. Wiktoria HHF is now an Elite mare candidate, too, with a final score of 7.38. She received 7.5 for walk and rideability, 7's for trot and canter and 7/8 for the jumping. The two other mares tested just missed the mark for EMC, but showed well also.
There were 15 foals- 9 colts and 6 fillies. Top colt for the day was Wham Bam TFH by Welfinkoenig II out of Satsuma (Sandro Hit), owned and bred by Talley Ruhle. Others were sired by Royal Prince, Pablo, Don Principe, Hotline, and Loerke. Two fillies were named as top for the day- Lhollipop [Loerke/EM Dhewpoint (DiCaprio)] (they liked her conformation)

and Hhot Tamale [Hotline/EMC Chee Chee (Contucci)] (they liked her movement). Both are owned and bred by me.
Others were sired by Sinatra Song, Welfinkoenig II, Black Tie and Gold Luck. All in all, it was a great day, even though the temperature was really HOT! Thanks to all of the people who attended. It was fun! We then had just a few months to prepare two more three year old mares for the inspection and MPT at Hedgeland in the fall (Rheporter and Rheceptionist)... Life is never dull at Rolling Stone Farm!
Hedgeland inspection, MPT and MAHB Mare Show 10/4&5/08:
The weekend was a fun and busy one at a beautiful facility (Hedgeland Equestrian- thank you, Dr. Vito delVento and staff).
There were 9 mares for the Mare Performance Test. The high score was actually won by a gelding doing the test for performance results for the sire statistics that the AHS hopes to start keeping. His name is Ali Baba Q- 5 y.o. (Anhaltiner E- EM Berlina/Brentano II) O & B: Suzanne Quarles. His score was 8.14. He showed really good jumping ability, trot and rideability. Of course, a gelding couldn't win a mare performance test, so the high score ribbon went to Amethyst Q- 5 y.o. (Anhaltiner E- EM Lady L/Leibnitz), owned by Dennis Moore and bred by Suzanne Quarles. Her score was 8.11. She also won the high score free jumping trophy sponsored by Paul Cohen of Associations Underwriters and Ziplow Horse Insurance Agency. She received 2 9's for free jumping scores. She also was good in rideability and canter. Dennis also won the silver cup trophy for the highest placed MAHB owned mare in the MPT. The next day at the mare show, Amethyst won her class, was Mature Horse Champion and Reserve Grand Show Champion. We are all so happy for Dennis- congratulations! All of the mare owners who brought their mares to be performance tested should be applauded. It takes a huge commitment to prepare a mare properly, and the results are important to make good breeding decisions regarding strengths and weaknesses.
The other mares which received Elite Mare Candidate were Lorelei Q, 7 y.o. (Loerke- EM Whimsical/Wertherson) owned by Laura Phillips and bred by Suzanne Quarles, inspection 7.0, MPT 7.22, Wrosie Q, 9 y.o. (Weltbekkant-Genial/Garibaldi II) owned by Judith Salmon and bred by Suzanne Quarles, inspection- 7.16, MPT- 7.64, Rheporter, 3 y.o. (Royal Prince- EM Whispre/ Weltmeyer) inspection 7.33, MPT-7.06,
Rheceptionist, 3 y.o. (Royal Prince- EM Whallis Blue/Wallstreet Kid) inspection 7.33, MPT- 7.0.
Rheporter and Rheceptionist are both owned and bred by me, and are third generation products of my breeding program. At the mare show, Rheporter won her class, was reserve champion young mare and Show Grand Champion. Rheceptionist was second in her class. The top Hanoverian mare for inspection was Clairvoya, 10 y.o. (Certus [Old]- Wachel/Wenzel I) with a score of 7.5. She is owned by Lauren Sprieser and was bred in Germany. She becomes an Elite mare Candidate because of her very good FEI dressage scores. High score non- Hanoverian mare with a 7.16 was the Oldenburg mare, NF Sparks Fly by Anhaltiner E out of a Westphalian mare by Fruehlingsball, owned by Susan Forester and bred by Dr. John Hurtgen.
There were 8 filly foals. The top filly of the day was by Coconut Grove xx- EM Garnette/ Grusus, owned and bred by Dr. Vito DelVento. There were 8 colts for registration. Top colt and winner of the top foal award of a beautiful halter was by Sinatra Song- EM Berlina/Brentano II, owned and bred by Tom and Karan Schwencer.
The mare show had high quality horses in it. All of the classes and the Grand Championship were sponsored by our special friend and supporter, Paul Cohen of Associations Underwriters and Ziplow Horse Insurance Agency. Beautiful halters with engraved brass plates were the class awards and spectacular glass bowls etched with the MAHB logo were the championship awards. Winner of the foal class was the Sinatra Song colt which was top foal on Saturday. He was also Young Horse Champion with Rheporter as reserve. Young Horse Champion sponsor was Retreat Farm/Celia Rafalko. Mature Horse Champion was Amethyst Q with Little Whiskey Girl (Landkoenig/Ganymed) as reserve. She is owned and bred by Jayne Toering. Sponsor of the Mature Horse Championship was Laurel Leaf Farm/ Peter and Diane Halpin. Our other major sponsor was Aspen Leaf Farm/ Michael Tucker and Marne Martin-Tucker. Grand Show Champion was Rheporter with Amethyst Q as Reserve. The materiale class was won by Wrosette L (Wallstreet Kid- EM Davignette/Davignon) owned and ridden by Lauren Dearlove and bred by Pat Limage.
It is lots of fun to see the thread of pedigrees from MAHB members' breeding programs that ran through the show. EM Berlina was imported by Suzanne Quarles, was Grand Champion at Dressage at Devon and later sold to Karan Schwencer. She is the dam of two embryo transfer foals by Sinatra Song, one of which was a big winner, and she was also the dam of our gelding entry, Ali Baba Q. Suzanne's stallion Anhaltiner E was the sire of Ali Baba Q as well as Amethyst Q, our high scorers for the MPT and he was the sire of the non- Hanoverian champion, NF Sparks Fly. Royal Prince sired two mares which completed their MPT's with less than 90 days under saddle, both receiving EMC titles and 1A at the mare show, including the show grand champion. Wallstreet Kid appears in the pedigree of the materiale winner and the 2 y.o. filly winner as sire, and as the dam sire of Rheceptionist. Our jumper and hunter breeders like Diane Halpin, Rick Toering and Dr. Vito DelVento were well represented with products of their programs that had good conformation and movement as well as being bred to jump.
This mare show once again demonstrates the high quality breeding that is going on in the Mid Atlantic states.
For myself, I am very proud that we have five new Elite mare Candidates for the year out of five very green three year old mares that we presented. They are all pregnant for 2009, and they will hopefully fullfill their Elite Mare requirement for the AHS by having foals in 2009. Since I am gradually changing over my breeding program totally to GOV, they will be presented to the GOV for inspection in 2010 so that their future foals will be registered Oldenburg.
